A Dazzling Disney Hall Premiere
On July 19 and 20 2014, the Gay Men’ Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) premiered a piece they commissioned from me for their 35th anniversary concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The piece, entitled Nebula of Angels, for men’s chorus, youth chorus, and orchestra, was a setting of a poem by Los Angeles poet George Wallace, written specifically for this occasion. As a singing member of the chorus I’m afforded the rare opportunity to be witness not only to the musical development of the piece, but how the singers themselves respond and grow into the music. It was and is such a privilege both to write for and be part of such an extraordinary group of men. The performances were very well received and even garnered a mention in the Huffington Post, which you can read here.
